Quarterback Jeff Rutledge was considering LSU before Coach Bryant turned the tide on the younger Rutledge's decision on where he would play college football.
Hoping to throw the football at the next level, Rutledge asked Bryant if he'd call more passing plays with him on the team.
In his way, which Rutledge recalls in this interview clip, Bryant declined. But it was his follow-up response that led him to choose Bama over LSU.
"You didn't come to Alabama to throw the football," Rutledge said. "You came to Alabama to win national championships, and that's what the wishbone did."
